NSLI-Y is a U.S. Department of State program that provides merit-based scholarships for eligible high school students and recent high school graduates to learn less commonly taught languages in intensive summer and academic year overseas immersion programs.


 Scholarships are available for the following programs:

Summer 2022:
Arabic
Chinese (Mandarin)
Hindi
Indonesian
Korean
Persian (Tajiki)
Russian
Turkish

 
2022-2023 Academic Year:
Arabic
Chinese (Mandarin)
Hindi
Korean
Russian
Turkish
 




NSLI is are pleased to announce that the 2022-23 NSLI-Y application is now available on their website.

Before starting or completing your NSLI-Y application, be sure to review our eligibility guidelines and FAQs. They encourage you to carefully review the 2022-23 application requirements and components as there have been some changes from previous application cycles.

Please take note of the following deadlines:

Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 4pm US Eastern Time

  • Online Application
  • Signed Participant Agreement - Terms and Conditions

Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 4pm US Eastern Time

  • Recommendation
  • Parent/Legal Guardian Statement
  • Transcript (by upload only)

NSLI-Y strongly encourages that applicants ask any questions and submit their applications well in advance of the application deadline. Any technical problems with the application form should be reported by email to higschoolstudyabroad@americancouncils.org or nsliy@americancouncils.org. NSLI-Y and American Councils for International Education bear no responsibility for data transmission problems in submitting the application.
